IN THE SPIRIT OF BLACK Called to the Camera: Black American Studio Photographers
🩷💜 ARTIST RECAP💜🩷
Last week we celebrated the closing of the legendary “In The Spirit of Black” exhibition that I’m so honored to have been apart of! It’s truly a surreal feeling having my art on display in an exhibition amongst so many other amazing artist! Thank you all so much for the opportunity and thank you to everyone that came out! 🥰🙏🏽
During this exhibition I revealed to my family that I had been published in the book “Called to the Camera: Black American Studio Photographers” as representation for modern photography! This book is dedicated to the social, political, and artistic impact of Black photographers in the United States from the 19th century to the present day. Work from this book was on display at NOMA September 1, 2022- January 8, 2023. NOMA is New Orleans oldest fine arts institution, a definite source of inspiration! I received the book recently and I was in awe of my work being on a full page in a textbook with proper credits! It made me think about the art history books I read while growing up and how I’ll forever go down in history. I feel so honored to have been featured! Thank you to @yaleuniversity press for the distribution featuring over 100 color palettes and essays by leading scholars of photographic and Black American history!! Thank you to the authors: Brian Piper, Carla Williams, and John Edwin Mason for recognizing my work! Thank you God, my husband, my family, and my lovely clients for your support 🫶🏽✨
Looking forward to what the future holds! This is just a reminder that what’s for you is for you and it’ll always find its way to you! 🥰💐
